Breakfast of Oligarchs
2023
Acrylic on canvas
30 in x 24 in / 76.2 cm x 60.9 cm
Part of the Propaganda Pop series, Breakfast of Oligarchs alludes to Kurt Vonnegut’s Breakfast of Champions, a novel that dismantles the illusions of free will and the absurdities of modern society—themes that reverberate throughout the painting. Reimagining the visual tropes of propaganda, the artwork blends bold nationalist iconography with pop aesthetics, exposing the contradictions of location privilege and influence.
Propaganda Pop reimagines the visual language of propaganda through a distinctly feminine and abstract lens, subverting its historical function as a tool of ideological control. The series reframes narratives of Lithuanian independence, American idealism, and contemporary political influence. The interplay of bold nationalist iconography with a "lipsticky" palette—a deliberately saccharine yet subversive approach—challenges the authority of traditional propaganda, exposing its mechanisms while reclaiming its power. This body of work marks a critical shift in the artist’s practice, moving beyond Western fashion influences toward an incisive interrogation of cultural identity and political mythmaking.

Reminiscences of
2023
Acrylic on canvas
30 in x 40 in / 76.2 cm x 101.6 cm
A meditation on identity, belonging, and the mythos of the American Dream, Reminiscences of offers a contrast between national iconography and personal introspection. Part of the Propaganda Pop series, the painting reimagines the rigid aesthetics of populist messaging, subverting its assertive clarity with a subject whose distant, frozen gaze resists easy interpretation. Set against the unmistakable backdrop of the American flag on what appears to be a sweltering July 4th, the work evokes the weight of collective memory and the individual’s place within it. The title nods to Jonas Mekas’s Reminiscences of a Journey to Lithuania (1972), an autobiographical reflection and a deeply personal meditation on displacement and identity. Here, the artist extends that dialogue to America—its promises and contradictions, hanging in the air like the shimmering haze of summer.
